The Burden of Choice (Second Son Chronicles Book 9)
Pamela TaylorOver the course of the midday meal, Warin and Frery hatch their
plan. Samuel will travel as a monk who’s lost most of his hearing,
Edward as an oblate accompanying him to a new posting. Samuel’s
feigned disability will allow Edward to do all the talking. Warin will
provide a letter of introduction to the abbot of a monastery in the Far
Nordics that the travelers can use as proof of the reason for their
journey. As the plans take shape, Edward shows the first signs of
cheerfulness I’ve seen in two days.
“The remaining question,” says Frery, “is transport. Since you
didn’t arrive on horseback, I suppose they’ll need two of our horses.”
“I’m afraid that’s right, Frery,” I reply. “But I’ll arrange for Elvin to
send you some good, reliable replacements.”
